Students can go from blank Internet browser page to taking an Accelerated Reader comprehension quiz in six clicks. It really is that easy. Here’s how:
Click 1: select the type of user you are. This how-to guide is designed to show you how a student would use the product, so “I’m a student” is the first click.
Click 2: select the AR product you want to use. If your school buys multiple AR products, the icons will appear here. For example, AR also makes a math product.
Clicks 3 and 4: type in the name of the book you want to be quizzed on and click “Search.” Once you’ve found the correct book, select “Take Quiz.”
As you can see, there is a “View Vocabulary” option. I’ve never used this, so I can’t speak to its usefulness. That’s one thing about AR, there are A LOT of features that you could avail yourself of, but if you don’t, it’s still a very useful tool.
Clicks 5 and 6: select how you read the book. The majority of my students select “I read by myself.” Then select “Start Quiz.”
From this point, the student is taking the quiz and it’s a completely straightforward multiple choice quiz.
Once the student completes question #10 (or question #20 for longer books), she rates how much she liked the book.
Then she gets the results.
It’s that easy! The hardest part is typing in the username and password correctly.
